"Clean, Green & Blue" - The Boaties' Environmental Guide

"Good water, good life" - Sir Peter Blake expressed it so simply - and for the thousands of Kiwis who enjoy getting out in boats this statement is particularly significant. However, the quality of our aquatic environment is at risk says Executive Director of the Sir Peter Blake Trust and marine scientist Dr Mark Orams.

"New Zealand has one of the highest ratios of boats per capita in the world and our boating community needs to play its part in looking after our marine and fresh water environments" he says.

To help the boating community to move towards taking better care of their activities and reducing their impact on the environment, the Sir Peter Blake Trust has created a web-based resource where boaties can learn how to make more environmentally friendly decisions.

"From how we pilot our vessels around marine wildlife to the kinds of cleaning products we use on our boats, our decisions have impacts on marine life. I have not yet met a boatie who does not have a love for the sea and we hope that this information will help skippers to do their bit to ensure the great experiences we are able to have now are also available to others in the future" says Dr Orams.
