Bayswater School students put on their red socks and paid homage to their most famous ex-pupil, Sir Peter Blake, with a clean up at Narrow Neck Beach.
The occasion marked Red Socks Day and many of the pupils donned the item often worn by Sir Peter for good luck. Children cleared the beach of plastic bottles and wrappers, shoe soles, lighters, polystyrene, glass, and metal.
The event was part of a nationwide initiative by the Sir Peter Blake Trust which focuses on caring for the marine environment.
It also celebrates the school's participation in the Care for our Coast programme which aims to continue Sir Peter's efforts to improve the state of oceans and waterways.
Bayswater School principal Chris Heney says as a past pupil of Bayswater School, Sir Peter's aspirations around environmental action and leadership continue to motivate and inspire.
"The coastal clean up focuses learning on real issues and students can see their actions having a direct and positive impact within their own community."
