Thursday
6th December marks 6 years since Peter was tragically killed. We hope
you will take the time to reflect on what he achieved during his
lifetime, and to read what the Sir Peter Blake Trust is doing to honour
his memory.
Two New Trustees:
We officially welcome two new Trustees to our Board: Professor John Montgomery and Steven Carden.
Professor
John Montgomery holds a Personal Chair in Biological Sciences, is the
Chair of Marine Science at the University of Auckland, and Director of
the Leigh Marine Laboratory. His work has been recognised by an
International Brain Research Organisation Fellowship, a Fulbright
Scholarship and the New Zealand Physiological Society Gold Medal. He is
a member of the Board of Antarctica New Zealand.
Steven
Carden was appointed a Sir Peter Blake Emerging Leader in 2005 while
working for McKinsey and Co in New York. He has since moved back to New
Zealand, working for McKinsey’s in Auckland. In June this year, he
published his first book, New Zealand Unleashed: The country, its future, and the people who will get it there. In
1998, Steven founded the First Foundation, after recognising the need
to assist talented, but financially disadvantaged youth in reaching
their potential.
Trust Clothing launched:
The
Sir Peter Blake Trust has launched a range of clothing in
partnership with Line 7. The range has classic, sports and
children's clothing options. Purchasing these items will
support our environmental and leadership programmes. Check out the
range on our website www.sirpeterblaketrust.org and consider making a purchase for your Christmas stockings!
Care For Our Coast Programme:
Fuji
Xerox (a Leading Partner) has set the benchmark by getting involved
with the Care for our Coast programme. Last week they invited
corporate clients to do a beach clean up. It was an extremely
successful day on Takapuna beach, where the clean up team of 24
people managed to scour the entire beach for
debris. Some of the interesting items included 2000 cigarette
butts, two syringes, and a car tyre, with a total of 5852
pieces! Once again plastics were significant, and most participants
were surprised at the findings on what looked like a relatively clean
beach. ::Click this link - to see the official results sheet::
Website Development:
In
alignment with the Care for our Coast programme, our website design
company, Shift, has recently revamped the site. It now has an
interactive section where students, community groups and
individuals can enter their beach clean up data. The site provides a
summary of their results and how they compare to the rest of the
nationwide clean ups. ::Click this link:: to view the Trust's interactive site.
Antarctic Youth Ambassador:
Jay
Piggott, the inaugural Antarctic Youth Ambassador, has returned from
Scott Base totally inspired. To learn more about his experience on
the ice, ::click here for images and video footage::
Happy Holidays:
We
would like to wish our leading partners (Westpac, Lion Foundation and
Fuji Xerox) and our many supporters, who make the
Trust programmes possible, a Happy New Year. Thank you for your
continued support.
Kind regards, Vicki and Laura
