Sir Peter Blake believed in the incredible potential of young
kiwis to achieve great things. He knew that inspiring leaders of
any age could be found in every corner of New Zealand. Today, the
Trust recognises these young leaders through an award for one
promising student in every primary and intermediate school.
The Sir Peter Blake Young Leader Award, in association with
Westpac, recognises young people who have shown promising
leadership in their schools and communities. The award is made to
one student in each primary and intermediate school selected by
teachers and peers.
This year during Leadership Week, inspire your students to Dare to Dream - by
encouraging them to stand tall and demonstrate their leadership
with an initiative in school or in the community. As Sir Peter
showed all of us, there are leaders and there are dreamers. Leaders
make things happen. Dreamers have a vision. The truly special
people do both.
How to get involved
Nominations for the 2012 Young Leader Award open on 1 February
2012 and close on 4 May. Each school may design their own process
for choosing and nominating their young leader.
Once the Trust received your student's name, arrangements will
be made for the presentation of the award. Prizes will be sponsored
by Westpac and, wherever possible, a Westpac representative will be
made available to present the certificate and medal at assembly on
Red Socks Day or during Leadership Week
