Eligibility criteria and application information for delegates wishing to be selected for the 9th Annual Sir Peter Blake Youth EnviroLeaders' Forum and the Young Blake Expedition to the Kermadecs

The 9th annual Sir Peter Blake Youth EnviroLeaders' Forum will provide an opportunity for candidates wishing to be selected for the Young Blake Expedition to the Kermadecs to learn more about this incredible area, and to gain the skills and experience required.

We are seeking young New Zealand leaders with a passion for the environment and a desire to visit the Kermadec Islands as a member of this once-in-a-lifetime expedition.
 

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for selection as a delegate to the 9th Annual Sir Peter Blake Youth EnviroLeaders' Forum and to become a member of the Young Blake Expedition you must be:

  • 15 - 18 years of age at the time of application;
  • A New Zealand citizen or a New Zealand resident;
  • A student at a New Zealand secondary school;
  • In good health, with a high level of physical fitness;
  • Able to demonstrate a passion for the environment and a contribution to New Zealand's natural environment;
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of the significance of the Kermadec Islands;
  • Able to show leadership potential;
  • Available to attend the Sir Peter Blake Youth EnviroLeaders' Forum in Auckland from 15 - 19 April, 2012.
  • If selected, available to travel to the Kermadec Islands as a member of the Young Blake Expedition from 8 - 19 August, 2012.

Application Process

  1. Download the application form and submit it, together with supporting information, to the Sir Peter Blake Trust. Applications must be received no later than 5pm on Friday 2 March, 2012.
  2. 50 delegates will be selected to attend the 9th annual Sir Peter Blake Youth EnviroLeaders' Forum in Auckland from 15 - 19 April, 2012. Forum delegates will have the opportunity to learn more about the environmental issues facing New Zealand and the significance of the Kermadec Islands, to undertake field work, activities and practical training, to develop leadership skills and to meet and engage with inspiring and informative speakers.
  3. From this group of 50 Forum delegates, 30 will be selected to join the Young Blake Expedition to the Kermadecs from 8 - 19 August, 2012.

Information and skills vital to delegates' success, safety and enjoyment as members of the Expedition will be learnt and developed at the Forum. Therefore, only delegates who have attended the 2012 Youth EnviroLeaders' Forum will be eligible for selection for the Young Blake Expedition to the Kermadecs.
