The Sir Peter Blake Trust
A retrospective look at our voyage on Seamaster from New Zealand to Antarctica:

Tuesday March 20th, 2001

When we set out on this – the first of 5 years of exploration and adventures to some of the most remote locations on the planet - we really weren’t sure of the outcome.

The natural world, the environment that means so much to each of us in our every day lives, is truly a wondrous world. From our beginnings around the North Island of New Zealand, to the Southern Ocean crossing, to our time in Antarctica – all have given us an appreciation that we perhaps didn’t have before.

We have had time to look and to learn and to listen and, most importantly, to think.

Even though we are now at the end of phase one, we are even more fascinated by what we find around us. Not all that we have discovered has filled us with joy – but then we didn’t think it would.

The most important outcome from this and future expeditions is to “make a difference” to how we all perceive the environment – to explain why it matters and to outline the reasons that change is necessary in a number of vitally important areas.

But we also wanted you to have fun with us. We hope you have!

We want you all as crew for the Amazon later in the year – and beyond.

Until later,

Best wishes.

Peter, Don and the Seamaster crew.
